Nickel Creek at the Gypsy Tea Room

Nickel Creek is coming back to Dallas! They are booked November 3rd at the Gypsy Tea Room in Deep Ellum. Their new cd is the best of the three they've released. My review includes an opinion that they've gotten back to what they are good at, great melodies and the arrangement of them. There is even a couple of features that highlight their instrumental abilities of more traditional while being extremely intricate in the Nickel Creek way.

REAL Texas Heat!

It's the dog days of summer now. I was looking foward to the hot weather back in May. Can you believe that? I can't believe that. Who would believe that? Hmmmmm. I'm really ready for fall now. The rains we had last week were a nice relief, but they made the grass grow and the fire ants surface in the softer ground. I treated three mounds in the front yard alone early this week. Gone now.

Saw a band last night at the Flying Saucer in Addison. Three piece. Pretty good for an abbreviated group. Weak on some songs, but good individual musicians. It was nice to get out, it's been awhile.

Got my radio gig tonight. I'm burning a number of DVDs for a project today and trying to play catch up. I bought Toast Titanium 6.0 yesterday, but didn't open it. It seems that the 5.2 version on the G4 is working as we speak. It wouldn't pull it off on our G5 yesterday. If all comes out ok I'll simply return the software to the Apple store tomorrow.

Flickr?

Anyone use Flickr? I have been, with the free account, but was needing some feedback on anyone that has the "pro" version and uses it often. Do they guarantee to store your photos indefinately? I'm out of room and it's the only way (simple) that I know to post my photos from my Mac.

I wanted to put up some Sausage King images from our Little Rock show last weekend. It was good, but I was in a funk. Starting songs off slow, couldn't hear my mic channel, didn't get in to the groove. I don't know why, it's just one of those thing you understand if you are a music man. I'm looking foward to this weekend. We've got another date in Eureka Springs.

Treasure Mountain

Colorado Waterfall at Treasure Mtn.

This shot was taken at Treasure Mountain just south of Wolf Creek about 50 miles northeast of South Fork Colorado. The story goes like this:

In the late 18th century (or slightly later) a group of 300 French military explorers left Leavenworth, KS (former French territory) to explore this area of the Rocky Mountains we know as southern Colorado. After three years of exploration in which they suffered through sickness, harsh weather conditions and hunger, a group of only 3 soldiers returned to Kansas to tell of great caches of gold found and buried on this particular mountain. Since that time there have been thousands who have combed the mountain in search of the buried treasure.

We came across it by accident and were taken by the natural beauty of the falls. We actually make the climb and spent time in one of the pools created by it near the top.

Wolf Creek

Wolf Creek

This was one of the most fantastic shots of our tour of the lower Rockies. We were just south of Wolf Creek and had climbed from the highway seen below. It was unbelievable. We took the drive from Sante Fe, NM to Pagosa Springs, CO and after passing through northern New Mexico with it's unbelieveable bounty of rocky ledges overlooking thousands and thousands of acres of desert this was our next sight. Dwell on it for a while. It's a great shot, even though taken from a moving car by the Ms.

VERIZON!!!!

I'm so frustrated! We have a telephone....yes a regular telephone....that we don't use....because we have to have it for our DSL line. Yes, I can't have DSL without paying for a phone that i don't use. We wanted to cut the expense of the telephone (did I say that we don't use it?), so while we were away the telephone was service was discontinued, along with my DSL! Now I can't seem to get it turned back on. I've been working on it since last Thursday but it's as slow as I could have ever imagined. I would leave Verizon and go elsewhere but, where we live in the corn...they are the only ISP. I'm still waiting. At the point when it's up, many photos. And fun!!

Back in Texas

I've not had the time to download any pics from the trip, but plan on that this weekend. We didn't end up in Telluride, but Santa Fe, then Pagosa Springs to Salida. It was great fun, but a long way back home. More to come...
